12 ways to use coconut oil

  1. Moisturizer - Coconut oil is one of the best options for a natural moisturizer. It works equally as good for the face as the rest of the body. If you’ve showered, or just washed your face or are suffering from winter skin - go for the coconut oil! Some people experience though that coconut oil clogs the pores, so see what works for you!
  2. Highlighter - I’ve talked about it here, but coconut oil as a highlighter is genius. It gives a natural, subtle, glow and makes your skin looks radiant without the use of makeup. Apply some on the cheekbones, nose tip and upper lip!
  3. Makeup Remover - If you’re also having a hard time getting all the makeup removed the first time, coconut oil might be the solution for you. Just put some on a cotton pad and rub it gently on the areas you have makeup. I personally think it works best for removing eye makeup and also lips!
  4. In tea/coffee - I’m not a nutritionist so I’m not gonna say anything about the health beneficial facts that might or might not come of it, but a teaspoon of coconut oil in the tea adds a nice taste! I love it in my raspberry tea!
  5. Shaving Balm - If you remove body hair, you might want to consider using coconut oil next time. The oil works perfectly as a shaving balm and has moisturizing qualities at the same time too. Just be sure to remove the excessive oil with an old towel and then shower again.
  6. DIY Scrub - Take some coconut oil and mix it with something with a good texture (coffee, sugar, sea salt). Add some honey and scrub your skin! Natural, cheap and easy!
  7. Eyebrows/Lashes - Apply coconut oil daily on your lashes/brows! I did a long post on it here. Worked for me and hopefully works for you too! I think about it this way: we give our hair enormous with love but often forgets the brows/lashes when it comes to some extra care! Lashes/eyebrows are hair too and definitely deserves the love.
  8. DIY Mask - If you’re not one for scrubs, try a DIY mask with coconut oil. For instance, check these ones!
  9. Sooth anything - Whenever I get a paper cut, or other wounds that stings, I apply coconut oil. It gives a soothing feeling and makes the paper cut less annoying for the moment at least!
  10. Hair oil - Oil and hair in combination is a match that’s been for centuries. Coconut oil is no exception to this and gives nutrition to the hair and is also moisturizing.
  11. Lip Balm - If I’m out of lip balm I always use coconut oil. Not only does it taste yummy (haha) but it’s also helps with chapped lips!
  12. Cuticle Care - Lastly, coconut oil is great for cuticle care. Apply the coconut oil and rub it in. They’ll feel and look better!

Coconut Oil For Eyebrows

Today’s post is a bit different as it won’t be about you, but about me (sorry about that). It will be about me and my best friend coconut oil. It’s a fun one, so bear with me! Folks? Coconut oil for eyebrows is true!

Background Story

I’m not good at committing myself to changes aka new routines, perhaps because my life is hectic as it is or I just tend to forget way more than I should. But if there’s one thing I’m specific about when it comes to my beauty life it’s my eyebrows. They’re not any Cara Delevingne ones or Audrey Hepburn’s, but they’re doing quite alright. As I’m guilty of existing during the wave of thin eyebrows, my eyebrows have been thinner than thinnest. (It should be somewhat a crime to pluck the eyebrows to non-existence). They have been growing back more than fine, not as fine as I’d want them however. And as I’m a huge fan of coconut oil (extra virgin organic coconut oil that is) I thought it was my turn to combine my two loves, coconut oil and my eyebrows. Here’s the thing:

Coconut oil for Eyebrows

Coconut oil is somewhat famous for its many health benefits. Everything from serving as a moisturizer, to oil pulling, highlighter and soothing for wounds (find a long list here). It’s also known for stimulating hair growth, which is ultimate when it comes to eyebrows. But as with all beauty trends and cures, one doesn’t really know until you’ve tried it yourself. Even though it works for everyone else, it will remain pointless if it doesn’t work for you (being all selfish and everything).

The New Routine

So I decided to give it ago, apply coconut oil on my eyebrows every day for 30 days. This with the intention to get my tiny gaps in my eyebrows filled in a natural way to a low cost. And do it in an easy and smooth way, aka not committing myself to eyebrow improvement for hours a week. So here’s how I did it:

  • I bought a jar of extra virgin coconut oil to have in the bathroom specific and had a spoon for application.
  • I applied coconut oil on the entire eyebrow (not only on the gaps) once a day. I’ve not been consistent in when I’ve applied oil on them, doing both morning and nights and sometimes in the middle of the day (again, I’m not good at creating new routines).
  • So this is what I did for 30 days, one stroke on my left eyebrow and one stroke on my right. And I’ve not used makeup for my eyebrows on a daily basis. I’ve only had it for specific occasions.

And while we’re at it, I can just say that it’s easy to do this routine. It’s kind of fool proof. Having a visible jar of coconut oil in the bathroom is a great reminder. And as it’s only to be done once a day and it takes 10 seconds to do both of the eyebrows, it’s not a time issue at all.

The result

Here’s what my eyebrow looked like before, it’s okey in thickness (would love them thicker though) but it has a few gaps here and there. Some spots are more thin than others and you can see them below to the right. And please! Do note that I have no makeup or done anything to my eyebrows in the before or after picture. Only coconut oil after 30 days! And yes, I know that some might not see what I’m complaining about in the first place, but I stare at these every.single.day. I know what I want-ish.

As you can see, IT DID HAPPEN. THE MAGIC HAPPENED. It’s an improvement, a small improvement but still an improvement. The crucial gap (by the beginning) is filled! Well, of course it can do better (why didn’t Audrey Hepburn happen?!) and I’m still not completely happy with the bow and the end of the brow. But, it’s on its way. The improvement is happening. And 30 days might not be long enough (there haven’t been hair there for years), so I’ll probably continue this for awhile. Perhaps it’s one of those things like moisturizing the face, it should be done daily. And for a good pair of eyebrows, they might need their daily love as well.

The Pros and Cons

So here are some final, more structured thoughts on the pros and cons:

Pros

  • It’s cheap. A jar of coconut oil can be found in you local food store. Make sure its virgin and organic! And a jar for your eyebrows only lasts for months!
  • It’s easy to do. Seriously, if I can do it anyone can. Have a jar in your bathroom and take 10 seconds of your life each day to care for the brows. It’s worth it.
  • It’s natural. No weird ingredients no one can pronounce nor spell, only 100% natural coconut oil.
  • It works. It do works. It’s not an “over the night” happening, but it finds its way.

Cons

  • It can be a bit greasy. Coconut oil is an oil and they get greasy. Doing this during summer was not my best idea either. It worked but it was definitely some occasions where the oil got everywhere.
  • It’s not a one time doer, it demands commitment (10 seconds lol).
  • As it enhances hair growth and the coconut oil finds the way to a larger area than only the precise stroke of eyebrow. You’ll see that more hair, that are not wanted, will pop up and show up where you don’t want them too. Especially below (where one puts the highlighter aka they won’t increase the thickness but just be annoying).

So that’s a wrap on my love for my eyebrows and coconut oil, and especially doing this in combination. It’s easy, cheap and natural which is all I ask (quite a lot though) of a new routine that’ll help my beauty life. And as I’ll continue doing this, who knows, I might need to do another update post if the magic keeps on happening!

Tips For Strobing

So there’s contouring, non-touring and then there is strobing. If contouring is the full look, and non-touring the minimal one, strobing is the meeting point of the two! Folks, here are our best tips for strobing!

What is strobing

Strobing might be a somewhat ridiculous name as it only describes a makeup look with only highlighter and no contour. So basically strobing is when you highlight the peaks of your face without doing the shadow. The beauty trend became a buzz last summer, but as it’s more of a way of makeup rather than a one-hit trend, it’s okey to gush about it this season too. If you want to follow the latest trend however, it’s the non-touring trend that’s the hit of the summer. It’s kind of a light strobing!

When to use strobing

As strobing is a lighter makeup look than contouring, it’s a favorable one during summer. The look is easy to achieve as you don’t need as many products or as much time. You only need a highlighter and do some light blending. Strobing is the way to go if you want to illuminate the face and give it the ultimate summer glow.

What to think about

Do your makeup as usual, but when you’re about to contour, you just highlight the face instead. You want to apply your highlighter on your cheeks, the tip of the nose, above your upper lip and in the center of your forehead (see full guide above). A cream is to prefer as it’s easier for it to work its way in the makeup look. Or a highlighter from a creamy palette. If you want to opt full natural, accentuate the peaks with some coconut oil!

Folks, what do you think about strobing (aka regular highlighter)?
