Coconut Oil For Eyebrows

Today’s post is a bit different as it won’t be about you, but about me (sorry about that). It will be about me and my best friend coconut oil. It’s a fun one, so bear with me! Folks? Coconut oil for eyebrows is true!

Background Story

I’m not good at committing myself to changes aka new routines, perhaps because my life is hectic as it is or I just tend to forget way more than I should. But if there’s one thing I’m specific about when it comes to my beauty life it’s my eyebrows. They’re not any Cara Delevingne ones or Audrey Hepburn’s, but they’re doing quite alright. As I’m guilty of existing during the wave of thin eyebrows, my eyebrows have been thinner than thinnest. (It should be somewhat a crime to pluck the eyebrows to non-existence). They have been growing back more than fine, not as fine as I’d want them however. And as I’m a huge fan of coconut oil (extra virgin organic coconut oil that is) I thought it was my turn to combine my two loves, coconut oil and my eyebrows. Here’s the thing:

Coconut oil is somewhat famous for its many health benefits. Everything from serving as a moisturizer, to oil pulling, highlighter and soothing for wounds (find a long list here). It’s also known for stimulating hair growth, which is ultimate when it comes to eyebrows. But as with all beauty trends and cures, one doesn’t really know until you’ve tried it yourself. Even though it works for everyone else, it will remain pointless if it doesn’t work for you (being all selfish and everything).

The New Routine

So I decided to give it ago, apply coconut oil on my eyebrows every day for 30 days. This with the intention to get my tiny gaps in my eyebrows filled in a natural way to a low cost. And do it in an easy and smooth way, aka not committing myself to eyebrow improvement for hours a week. So here’s how I did it:

  • I bought a jar of extra virgin coconut oil to have in the bathroom specific and had a spoon for application.
  • I applied coconut oil on the entire eyebrow (not only on the gaps) once a day. I’ve not been consistent in when I’ve applied oil on them, doing both morning and nights and sometimes in the middle of the day (again, I’m not good at creating new routines).
  • So this is what I did for 30 days, one stroke on my left eyebrow and one stroke on my right. And I’ve not used makeup for my eyebrows on a daily basis. I’ve only had it for specific occasions.

And while we’re at it, I can just say that it’s easy to do this routine. It’s kind of fool proof. Having a visible jar of coconut oil in the bathroom is a great reminder. And as it’s only to be done once a day and it takes 10 seconds to do both of the eyebrows, it’s not a time issue at all.

The result

Here’s what my eyebrow looked like before, it’s okey in thickness (would love them thicker though) but it has a few gaps here and there. Some spots are more thin than others and you can see them below to the right. And please! Do note that I have no makeup or done anything to my eyebrows in the before or after picture. Only coconut oil after 30 days! And yes, I know that some might not see what I’m complaining about in the first place, but I stare at these every.single.day. I know what I want-ish.

As you can see, IT DID HAPPEN. THE MAGIC HAPPENED. It’s an improvement, a small improvement but still an improvement. The crucial gap (by the beginning) is filled! Well, of course it can do better (why didn’t Audrey Hepburn happen?!) and I’m still not completely happy with the bow and the end of the brow. But, it’s on its way. The improvement is happening. And 30 days might not be long enough (there haven’t been hair there for years), so I’ll probably continue this for awhile. Perhaps it’s one of those things like moisturizing the face, it should be done daily. And for a good pair of eyebrows, they might need their daily love as well.

The Pros and Cons

So here are some final, more structured thoughts on the pros and cons:

Pros

  • It’s cheap. A jar of coconut oil can be found in you local food store. Make sure its virgin and organic! And a jar for your eyebrows only lasts for months!
  • It’s easy to do. Seriously, if I can do it anyone can. Have a jar in your bathroom and take 10 seconds of your life each day to care for the brows. It’s worth it.
  • It’s natural. No weird ingredients no one can pronounce nor spell, only 100% natural coconut oil.
  • It works. It do works. It’s not an “over the night” happening, but it finds its way.

Cons

  • It can be a bit greasy. Coconut oil is an oil and they get greasy. Doing this during summer was not my best idea either. It worked but it was definitely some occasions where the oil got everywhere.
  • It’s not a one time doer, it demands commitment (10 seconds lol).
  • As it enhances hair growth and the coconut oil finds the way to a larger area than only the precise stroke of eyebrow. You’ll see that more hair, that are not wanted, will pop up and show up where you don’t want them too. Especially below (where one puts the highlighter aka they won’t increase the thickness but just be annoying).

So that’s a wrap on my love for my eyebrows and coconut oil, and especially doing this in combination. It’s easy, cheap and natural which is all I ask (quite a lot though) of a new routine that’ll help my beauty life. And as I’ll continue doing this, who knows, I might need to do another update post if the magic keeps on happening!

Perfecting Your Eyebrows

Even though eyebrows always have been a matter of beauty during the course of history, the brows have never been as important as they are today. The thicker the better and the more natural the best. Folks? This is the art of perfecting your eyebrows.

Basics of the eyebrows

If you’re as obsessed with eyebrows as we are, you’ve probably heard this, but to the rest of you: eyebrows should be siblings, not twins. As our faces left and right side aren’t identical (nor symmetrical), why should our eyebrows be? Letting your eyebrows follow their natural shape for the eye is the best way of maintaining a natural look. Another basic of the eyebrow is to remember the three points. Your eyebrows should begin with a middle point, continue to a high point and end in a low point. Depending on the style of your eyebrows, this rule is more visible sometimes, but should be followed nonetheless.

Make them grow and keep them in shape

This is of course a matter of preference but as the trend at the moment is thick and natural eyebrows, we’ll opt for the look. If you, like many of us, suffered from a bad case of thin eyebrows á la 00’s you probably suffer from inconsistent and thin eyebrows. Overplucked eyebrows is kind of a minor beauty crisis for eyebrow lovers. The way to work against it is to leave them alone. That doesn’t mean no pluck ever, but not plucking where the hair follows the natural line of the eyebrow shape. And as for the growing part, some people apply coconut oil on the brows which makes them grow faster and fuller.

How To Style Them

Eyebrows tends to be lighter in the beginning, get darker in the middle and get lighter again towards the end. This of course follows the logical reasoning of the amount of hair that follows in the parts. The conclusion of this? Dealing with two different eyebrow pens or shadows might be something you’d like to try. Doing the same shade for the entire eyebrow risks giving an unnatural look. Doing a lighter shade in the beginning and in the end, will follow the natural color of the eyebrows. If you don’t want to deal with two shades, do remember to be lighter on the hand when applying in the beginning and in the end. The difference will be obvious!

No Pluck

No pluck? Well folks, remember back in January when we talked about some proper New Year’s Resolutions? Well, one of the statements was to not over pluck our eyebrows and as three months have passed by since, a reminder is in its place!

Regarding the plucking of your eyebrows it’s easy to be wise after the event has occured! We all know how it goes, you’re standing in front of the mirror with a tweezer and you begin with one stray of hair and just another one. And all of sudden you’re past the point of no return, and your eyebrows are a bit thinner and shorter than they were when you began. Believe us, we’ve all been there! And the annoying part is that the hair you don’t want always seem to be growing back and the ones you need back are the ones who don’t come back. So there you are with weird eyebrows and you’re trying not to freak out.

So the resolution to it? Well, there are great
serums out there for growing hair back. But except being expensive they often are a bit messy to deal with. So folks, the most natural way to do it is to let your eyebrows rest, and that’s why we think no pluck in April is a total go! Of course you can pluck the most crucial ones, but don’t mess with the shape of your eyebrows and most definitely not the length. By no time you’ll hopefully have the shape and more natural shaped eyebrows back!

And hey if you’re impatient and would like to try a serum but can’t afford it, some people use (wait for it!) coconut oil. Just apply some coconut oil on the eyebrows and leave it be. We wouldn’t say this is scientific, but hey if it doesn’t work your eyebrows will at least be moisturized (and who doesn’t want that, right…?!).

Folks? Simply put: No pluck eyebrows in April is a go!
