Beauty Terminology

We recently did a compilation of some fun fashion terminology, so why not do the same for beauty? Here are some random beauty terminology for you!

Non-touring

Ever since contouring took the world by storm it’s been the makeup lovers go-to makeup look (more or less). But this summer people are buzzing about non-touring which, as the name reveals, is a no contour makeup look. It’s practically a no makeup makeup look that’s suitable for the summer as the makeup is light and natural (see Maiyet’s runway look for SS16 below). For the non-touring look you need a primer, a light base and some highlighter on your face’s peaks (as easy as one two three)! Kohl

If we think the coconut oil is the multitasking hero of our beauty lives, it’s nothing compared to the Kohl. Kohl was an early version of mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and protector from evilness (!). As many of our beauty products today, it was the people of ancient Egypt who worked the multifunctional product. Read more about kohl and the history of mascara here! Stiletto

No, we’re not talking about stiletto heels, but stiletto nails to be specific. Stiletto is the name of the nails that are also known as claw nails. They’re pointy, sharp and perhaps the most fierce and unpractical nail shape there is. The stiletto trend exploded last year and for the most dedicated nail dorks, it’s still a killer one! The stiletto nails are often created with gel as they have to be both long and pointy, something that’s difficult to achieve with our natural nail shape.

Folks, what are your best random beauty terminology?

  1. I’ve never really been into contouring myself, perhaps because I’m totally useless at it, haha. 🙂 I do prefer the non-touring trend, also stiletto nails look awesome! Thanks for sharing. x

    • The non-touring non-existing trend is lovely, it’s basically just makeup that looks natural so it’s perfect for summer and works perfectly fine all year around too if you love your look natural! Xx

  2. I think makeup trends are absolutely nuts these days, too many fancy names and if you take a closer look at what it’s about, it’s something that has been done all the while. I say stick to what works best for our face.

  3. I’ve been hearing the non-touring word being thrown around recently. I actually hate the word itself, like couldn’t people come up with something better? Haha. So many new trends always. Hard to keep up! Hope you have a great weekend. 🙂

    • To use a highlight is a lovely way of makeup! The kohl talked about here is not the beauty brand but the old product the egyptians used, which I’m pretty sure is not the Kohl liner today hahah! But haven’t tried Kohl liner and am always in search for a good eyeliner so should look it up! Xx

  4. Very interesting post! I’ve noticed that a lot of the makeup techniques we use today, first originated in Egypt, which is pretty cool! In my early teens, I used to love wearing fake acrylic nails, but when I entered my 20’s, I started to prefer my nails much shorter because I feel they look more polished and practical. I can’t imagine having to scoop out cream in a jar or other things you’d need to use your fingers for with stiletto nails. I must admit, depending on the nail color, I think it can be pretty, but I personally find them to be impractical. I’m also loving the non-touring trend, it’s much easier and suitable for summer. I don’t like the feel of a ton of makeup on my face when it’s hot out, so this is definitely a trend for me! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great weekend!

    • Yes, the egyptians are a major reason why our makeup looks the way it does today! Insane and amazing at the same time for sure! Yes the stilettos are both chic and impractical at once. And they do require some effort and nail care. But would go mad wearing them, typing on your phone would be so annoying as well as writing on your computer! Xx

  5. I don’t really like the stiletto nails. I don’t know, I just think it looks evil-ish. It looks like the kind of nails evil witches in fairy tales would have. haha! I love non-touring though. I can never get used to my face contoured so have always skipped that part whenever I wear makeup. 🙂

    • Hahah it is hilarious indeed, and it feels more like something created for a buzz than a word people actually will use! Yes, I have seen it, craycray if I may say so but lovely with all the colors hahah! Xx
