What color can you match with colors in the same scale and keeping an interesting tone? That’s right, grey. What color works for all the seasons without it feeling tiresome? That’s right, grey. Folks? Grey is the way to life!
Grey is a color consisting of white and black and also considered to be a color without any color in it (cause’ that makes sense right?). Throughout the history, it has been associated as a color for the peasants. Mainly because wool is grey in its natural state, which the poor didn’t have money to dye. It wasn’t until the 18th century grey became a color of fashion and luxury. Around this time it was also the color for wigs, preferably in a light and dusty tone. The color was also popular for suits during the 20th century, and reached its peak during the 1950’s and 1960’s for men. Grey later became a color associated with politics and gave a solid impression. Today the color is popular from most fashion perspectives, whether you head for a classic fashion, a street inspired or a bohemian one - the non-color color will indeed be present!
As the color both comes in warm and cool tones (depending on if it’s mixed with yellow or blue), the color serves as a great foundation for matching. Both from the poppin’ colors we adore, pastels we love and random colors as beige and purple, it serves as a great companion on highlighting these colors. It’s also terrific when it comes to matching in scale as darker shades and brighter ones gives an interesting contrast.
Grey? Yay!
