Gucci Cruise 2017

So if you’ve been near any fashion accounts on social media lately, you’ve probably already seen some of the Gucci Cruise 2017 collection. If not, here’s one for you!

Details

As if we weren’t overloaded with fashion enough (we’re grateful though), a cruise collection (aka resort collection) is a pre-season collection some of the bigger fashion houses do. As the name may gucci cruise 2017reveal, a cruise collection focuses on travelling and the jet-setters, but it’s more of an official term rather than an actual one. Gucci’s Cruise 2017 collection took place on June the 2nd with Westminster Abbey as the runway and the british references were obvious in the collection as well. Some spotted A-listers (like, where was our invitation duh?) were Elle Fanning, Alexa Chung and Georgia May Jagger.

Style

The collection didn’t only show in Britain, it was flirting with the classic british style as well. And we’re not talking subtle-classic-black-and-white-and-maybe-some-red-style, but like everything-at-once-style. Like bonkers, brilliant and ace to use some typical british words. We spotted details on details, 1970’s vibe, punk, old british lady, 90’s shoes and oh crazy patterns that stretched from worms to flowers and things we’re not sure about. Except what we mentioned, there was some flirting with Alice in Wonderland too, with cute ruffles, bows and crazy hair. We’re pretty sure the definition of more is more got a new synonym. And if you still have no clue about the collection, we still haven’t figured it out after three weeks so you’re cool.

Overall Conclusion

But hence the confusion and the lack of a coherent style, we adored this collection. Might not be a good example of a ready-to-wear collection and certainly not something we will see in the streets. But for it’s aspect of fun, exploring and going bonkers (we just had to use the word again), it’s a lovely piece of fashion meeting art. The collection didn’t meet the demand of wearable clothes, but it wasn’t its intention either. Taking it for what it is (somewhat a blurry definition of RTW fashion but more of a fashion playground), is the way to go on about it.

Folks, what are your thoughts on the Gucci Cruise 2017 collection?

Pastel Colors

They’re cute, preppy and summerish and we’re pretty sure you love them too. Folks, we’re talking about the adorkable pastel colors!

Pastel colors

The pastel colors kind of exist in every color scale, are high in lightness and low in colorfulness. The colors have for long been associated with summer, partly due to their commonness amongst flowers and also the sweet and light vibe to them. Summer clothes in particular are a popular target for the colors, everything from blouses, crochet tops and skirts are typical features. The pastel colors are also considered rather preppy and are favorable in fabrics such as lace, organza and chiffon. We all do remember the Elie Saab 2012 Pastel Couture Collection, (and any other Elie Saab collection to be honest, but we adore it).

Color combos of pastelsPastel Colors

If there are some colors that definitely should be matched with other colors, it’s the pastels. As they all are in the same bright color scale they are perfect to go with one another as they bring out each others light and bright sides. Mint blue and mauve are two lovely color combos as well as baby pink and mauve. Mint green and blue to mention another and peach and pink to give a third. Take a look at our color chart for a better idea!

How to wear them.

Except being paired with one another, pastels are also fun to contrast with textures. With denim the colors get a bit of an edge, and denim jackets in specific are lovely. Heavy knitted sweaters make a lovely contrast and are perfect for cold summer nights. If you want to add to the sweetness, pastels in combo with pleated clothes are golden. Ruffle and bows paired with pastels will also bring out the preppy pretty style. And as mentiones, pastels in combo with light fabrics, such a lace, are enhancing the preppy and done look.

Folks, how do you wear the pastel colors?

Fashion Trends of 2016

We did a reminder of the beauty trends of 2016, so of course we have to remind you of the genius fashion trends of 2016. We talked about some back in January, but there are some new additions too!

Floral Romantic

So what’s a prettier pattern than flowers? Uhm, more flowers probably. We’re dorks of this trend and have been gushing about it non-stop (read about the floral patterns of the Arts & Crafts Movement here!). The fashion trends of 2016pattern of the season is quite retro, and we’re also seeing a lot of tropical flowers. If you’re unsure what floral pattern you should pick, many designers worked the more is more style. Kind of over the top, but ever so lovely that is!

Bedroom Wear

So you’ve probably noticed the trend as it has been around for awhile. But the bedroom wear fashion has evolved quite much since it was introduced. We’re talking slip dresses, lace, satin, bras on the outside and dove colors such as pigeon blue, dark grey and dusty rose! As we mentioned in January, we love this trend with heavier materials such as denim, leather and faux fur. This trend has mostly been featured with the 90’s grunge vibe, both a chic and bold statement in the world of fashion! See a fashionable example of this trend below, with New York designer Thakoon’s robe!

Off Shoulder

We talked about it earlier this week and you loved it as much as we do! With different colors, shapes, patterns and sizes there is one for everyone if you’re fond of the style. As for picking one you love, find an off shoulder top that’s close to your personal style in terms of color, fabric and details you love. The step from your ordinary wardrobe to the new trend piece will be less obvious! Also remember to make it work in terms of silhouette. Be sure to outweigh it with a chic bottom if it gets too heavy on the top with the ruffles and shape!

Pssst, as a bonus: The culottes and the denim overalls are also more chic than ever this season. If you missed our posts on it, read about the culottes here and the denim overalls here!

And folks, what are your best fashion trends of 2016?

The Color Of Orange

Every now and then we highlight a specific color we’re especially fond of. We’ve talked about everything from Klein Blue, to neon, grey, pink and also the genius combo of grey and pink. Today our love (kind of) goes out to the color of orange!

Different orange

As with all colors, the color itself exists in different scales. And we do love our coral, orangered and darkorange color of orangehues! The color is also popular as neon as it’s both intense and popping. The peak of the season for the hue is during the summer months as its both light and a common feature in patterns. As fruit and floral pattern have been popular for a while, orange has a new place in the spotlight due to its common occurrence in nature. Dolce & Gabbana’s spring collection in 2012 featured the popular color through patterns of tomato, chili and flowers! As for the fashion season of SS16, orange is currently in atm (see Prabal Gurung, Stella McCartney and Balmain).

The Color of Orange

As a fashion color, orange has both been rated, hated and beloved. Even though it’s been in and out of fashion for years, the color has still had a hard time finding its place amongst fashionistas favorite. An iconic piece of orange in the history of fashion is Holly Golightly’s orange coat in BaT. Another time the color rose above average was in the 1970’s, and then in combo of brown! A color combo that’s both outdated and often unflattering (we should probably give it some more years before we start to love it again). The unfair history of the color was perhaps underlined when the color got another peak through Orange Is The New Black. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the series, we’re talking about jail fashion not a fierce Beyoncé red carpet style.

How to style orange

The color’s RGB value often starts from a red value of 255 (the highest possible value of red). This means that orange is favorable to match with colors such as pink, yellow and red if you want to go bold in the color matching. If you want to match it with a neutral, grey and white are both great colors. As orange is quite intense, it’s goes not often to well with black as they outdo each other with their intensity. The color is also terrific with denim as denim intensify the lovely color of denim.
