Fashion And Art

The beauty of fashion is all the aspects of it. We have the commercial version, the artisitic, the futuristic and so many The Mondrian Dressmore. In this week’s spotlight we’d like to highlight the artsy aspect of fashion. As everything is art (and art is everything), we do believe in the magic of combining artistic paintings and prints with the aesthetic of fashion.

This is not a new phenomenon however. One famous combination of art and fashion, is the collaboration between Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí, during the 1930’s, that resulted in a lobster dress. Which at the time was chocking, as fashion was still rather conservative during the era. A few decades later, Yves Saint 800px-HK_TST_Canton_Road_shop_LV_Woman_in_red_Aug-2012Laurent’s 1965 collection was inspired by artist Piet Mondrian and the outcome was several classic fashion pieces, with one specific dress in center (to the right). A dress that to this date remains a symbol of the 1960’s. An example of a successful match between fashion house and designer, in modern time, was the 2012 collection of Louis Vuitton that was co-created with the artist Yayoi Kusama (left).

We’d love to see more collabs of this sort as we simply can’t get enough. Mixing ideas from two worlds to create one, remains an important part of the cultural development of fashion. Fashion and art is the way to go!
