Folks, it’s Friday and this #fbf we go back to the 1960’s Fashion to dwell in minimalism, poppin’ colors, youth culture and style icons!
Even though it’s not fair to cover the 1960’s fashion in one single post (if we did a whole week of 1920’s fashion, a week of 1960’s fashion is sure in its place), but we’ll try our best. The 1960’s fashion emerged from a well-defined fashion of the 1950’s with The New Look, marked waists and a feminine fashion in focus. Frankly speaking, the 1960’s can somewhat be seen as a rebellious younger sibling to the more conservative 1950’s.
What happened in the 1960’s
The focus on Paris during the 1950’s shifted to London in the 1960’s and Carnaby Street in specific. Music groups such as Beatles and Rolling Stones got their break, and their fans were fashionable youths that captured the 1960’s spirit. The ideal body went from curvy to boyish á la Twiggy. Twiggy was one of the decade’s most prominent icons and her doe eyes are still iconic to this date. Other icons that marks the decade is Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and fashion designer YSL. Another factor during the 1960’s that influenced, was the space age. Thorough metallics and futuristic clothes the future was present in the daily wear. People wore poppin’ colors and crazy pattern combination. Denim got their breakthrough and the hippies were a fact.
1960’s Fashion
Some of the most charachteristic traits of the 1960’s fashion is the A-line silhouette, the colorful patterns, the mini-skirt and metallics. Of course colorful pops of makeup such as eyeshadows and eyeliners also marks the decade to this date. Famous fashion designers from the era are: André Courrèges, Marimekko, Emilio Pucci, Mary Quant and YSL. All whom captured the spirit of the futuristic decade with both colors and silhoutte by defying the old fashion laws of the 1950’s.

I love the bold patterns/colors of the 60s! This is a great summary of fashion trends during the decade. Thanks for sharing!
Best,
Christina

The 60s had such a distinct sense of style. It was all about being bold and strong and I LOVED IT.

I LOVE this era! Both the ’60s and ’70s are the most inspiring eras for me in terms of fashion. I really loved the use of patterns and bold colors during those time periods, so I get really excited when they’re trending these days! What I love most about ’70s fashion is how the lifestyle was really showcased through the clothing styles, such as boho, I find that to be pretty cool how you can bring fashion to life! Anyway, thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a great weekend!

Oh yes! Love how society was reflected in fashion during both decades. Such an awesome way to make a statement through your clothes by going boho, dressing in mini-skirts or rocking the a-line. Lovely that clothing stretches beyond material and sends a message, rather than just being fabric and thread! Xx
