The Spellbinding Beauty Icons

The beauty icons. You just can’t keep your eyes of them! But what is it that is so captivating and
spellbinding? Maybe the expression “jolie laide”, meaning “beautiful ugly”, has something to do with it? Beauty marks, gaps between the teeth, wide and deep set eyes and molds in an eye catching place. Imperfections are beauty because it puts an interesting personal touch in comparison to the standard beauty norm. Why? Because perfection is boring. Today’s successful models have their own quirky charm about them, either in their personality or in their physiognomy. Lindsey Wixon’s gap between her incisors,
Winnie Harlow with her rare and gorgeous skin and Cara Delevingne’s kooky unconventional personality. This being a new era for setting diversity as a trend hoping it stays sweeping the runways. Individuality in and flawless out we say!

The beauty icons alluring features, along with their effortless makeup, makes them stay frozen in time. The icons remains influential to this date, as they keep on serving as inspiration to many of today’s beauty icons. Rosamund Pike, who is a beauty herself, created her red carpet makeup look with inspiration from Grace Kelly. Giorgio Armani ss13 also had Grace Kelly as an inspiration, just like Oscar Dela Renta 2011, when the hair for the bridal show was in a classic 40’s style. Of course everything with a modern touch! Another great example of beauty icons in a modern manner, is last year when Dolce & Gabbana had Sophia Loren’s timeless sexiness as inspiration for the collection. Which resulted in a fierce cat eye and bold burgundy lip. The icons surely live on through fashion!

We might have amped up their looks today but the essence is still there. A natural “less is more look” or subtle dramatic look were the overall trend for these icons - sending out the signal “I’m confident as hell”. And we love it! So what can they teach us? Love yourself, even your imperfections because they make you YOU! And yes, this sounds like a cliché but it couldn’t be truer than true.

Food’s Impact On Skin

Don’t we all wonder if that delicious piece of chocolate really makes us wake up with a zit the next day? Or if food actually can make wonders for the skin? Sure, there are no foods for guaranteed flawless skin but some might be helpful - one bite at a time.

Some say that there is no scientific evidence that food affects the skin but let’s think logical here and not forget that our skin is after all our biggest organ and is affected by the outside AND the inside. Therefore, we can not expect our beauty products to do everything for us.

Our skin is built by cells which in turn are made up by fats and proteins. And for the cells to work they need energy, in other words carbs (carbohydrates). Eat to little and we lose important nutrients and the skins ability to repair and renew itself will decrease. This means we need good proteins (multiple times a day), healthy fats and slow carbs. On top of that we need antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So here’s what to eat for your skin type!

Dry skin needs a lot of hydrating so water, water and more water or try some coconut water. Avocados All pictures are CCO.
are great for you. It contains vitamins C, E, and monounsaturated fats, which will help your skin to lock in moisture. Fish because it contains Omega 3 fats. Orange and yellow veggies helps you fight dry skin. Olive oil and green leafs. And also nuts, fruits and eggs.

Oily skin also needs a lot of water but also fiber, like oatmeal, that helps to flush out toxins. Eat away on grapefruits, it’s high in fiber, water and vitamin C. Just like for the dry skin, fish, avocado, broccoli and green leafs are good for you. Omega 3 keeps some molecules that increase the sebum production under control. A heads up, sugar and dairy products may do more harm than good for you. But hey, dark chocolate won’t let you down, cocoa is good for you!

Normal skin is the least problematic skin so you can eat whatever pretty much even though the food mention will be good for you too. A little tip for all skin types that you can follow is that if you don’t understands all the ingredients you should probably not eat it. Natural and unprocessed is a fact the best way to go but a little cheating here and there is good for the soul.

Audrey Hepburn - An Icon Through Time

Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn. It may have been over 23 years since the Hollywood icon left us, but her legacy has kept the light going. To us, she is an icon through time.

Roman Holiday
Her style and elegance followed her through life, but to the public eye the starring in Roman Holiday marked the beginning of her time as a fashion icon. One of her most iconic look from the movie was the calf-length skirt with the sleeved shirt and the belt to accentuate her waist, all in a neat proportion. “The New Look” style was right in time and fitted Hepburn perfectly. The woman behind the Roman Holiday outfits was the legendary designer Edith Head, who later received an Academy Award.

Not only the fashion made its mark during the movie, but also the iconic haircut that took her from cute to edgy. A haircut that enhanced her well-defined eyebrows as well as her doe-eyes.

Sabrina
From Roman Holiday, her next big movie style-wise, was Sabrina. With creations signed by Hubert De Givenchy (also a lifelong friend of Hepburns), and a short hair cut she lit up the screen. The balance with feminine style and her petite, boyish, all-black set raised the fashion bar.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Hepburns elegance was, of course, in the centrum of the timeless movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Playing the role with humor and class, not only did she scored an Oscar, but secured her place as an all-time Hollywood-star. The quirky comments, elegant gestures and the fragile character of Holly Golightly were contributing factors as well, but it was Hepburn’s persona that gave it life. But Hepburn wasn’t the only star in the movie, her equal match was The Little Black Dress, signed Givenchy. The LBD gave life to the character as much as Hepburn’s class gave the old - but new - clothing piece life.

Personal Style
Nevertheless, was it not only in her movies her style was a game of perfection. Outside the film industry, her taste for simplicity and delicacy was present and relevant to the core of her nature. With simple lines and a minimalistic base she never failed to look her very best. Her years in Rome grasped the value of timelessness in style and the eternal city remains a metaphor for her legacy through time.
