So this is a really fun trend of fashion right now, the trend of working several statement colors in one outfit. It kind of goes hand in hand with the neon trend we’ve seen the past seasons, but infused with a lot of 90s and early 00s elements such as the baguette bag, the slip dress and the squared sandals! Well, here’s a trend alert on the statement colors 2021. Find previous articles here.
Statement Colors 2021
So the statement color trend is all about mixing and matching bold colors. Not always neons, but often neon colors and other intense shades of various colors. Green, purple, pink, yellow and blue are probably the most common versions, although red and orange are frequent too. I’d say that it’s common to use at least three different colors, but so many as five and six can also be used in one single outfit. Unlike the popular styling rule to have at least a few colors matching, this trend is more about colorblocking! Of course, you can repeat the color in some items, but the main idea is that it should be more like confetti. It should be mentioned that this trend is mainly done with neutral textures and without any distinct patterns and details.
How To Style It
I think it’s a favorable idea to start with three colors if you’ve never tried this. Perhaps go for one pink dress with a purple bag and blue shoes. Or why not some orange, with a yellow accessory and some red shoes? Well, the idea is that you work with whatever colorful elements you have. I would make sure to either go for only warm hues or cool hues in the outfit, to avoid the colors clashing. Remember though that all colors can be warm or cool, but it’s about its undertone! If you want to make it easy, keep the colors within the same scale. Orange, red, yellow and pink in one and purple, green and blue in another. But hey, the idea with this trend is that you should be able to clash and mix colors, so don’t be afraid to try for yourself what you’re comfortable with. And oh! I think it’s a good idea to keep the accessories minimalist, or at least not wear too many. It’s a good idea to let the colors speak for themselves. However, if you want to mix it up, classic patterns such as zebra and stripes are often a good match with colorblocking outfits.
Street Style Inspiration
And some street style inspo! Love how the pale pink complements the green hue in the first outfit. The pastels in the second outfit are gorgeous together, love that the shoes and the pants are matching. Love the three layers in the third look. Gorgeous to go for a neon theme. The orange and green duo in the fourth outfit is a gem too, love the matching green shoes. As for the last outfit, what’s better than a classic red and pink duo?

Hey Mia, I hope you’re doing good!
I love that color is having a big moment! You know this is totally my current mood and I have been looking for more colors in store, sometimes it is difficult, specially in the men’s section but I am happy to know that I am building a wardrobe of my own 🙂
I like what you said about accessories, if you’re wearing too much colors maybe you can stick to minimals when it comes to the details! In order to make the clothes but also the accessory to pop out 🙂 Contrast is the key!
Loved the images, they are giving me nice ideas for upcoming looks!
Best!
