Trend Alert: Puffer Jacket Fall 2017

Another week and another trend alert! It’s only natural that the jackets are in the spotlight these days, the temperature is chilly and we also crave the fashionable life, right? This week’s trend alert is all about the puffer jacket! Just a thought though before starting, the same way you choose faux when substituting animalistic materials with synthetic ones, same should go for your puffer jacket!

The Puffer Jacket Fall 2017

The puffer jacket is one those clothing pieces that are always showing up each season, but is a bit extra trendy this time around. The puffer jacket fall 2017 has been all about the oversized style and also the colorful statement. Red, pink, orange, blue, green – all colors imaginable.  As you know, red is one of the most popular shades of the season which makes a red puffer jacket kind of ultimate! The oversized style follows the tune of the 1980s vibe which is another trendy factor to check off! Some of the designers that worked the puffer jacket style are: Balenciaga, Sacai, Kenzo, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Tory Burch!

How To Style The Jacket

So the puffer jacket fall 2017 is about the voluminous, oversized, style. To balance this, the bottom part of your outfit can favorably be defined. A pair of skinny jeans, leggings or a skirt are all great examples.  Adding the OTK boots is a terrific way of adding a trendy and comfortable touch!

As the jacket is quite the statement itself, I’d avoid adding excessive accessories. That means a hat or a beanie, oversized scarf or jewelleries, as in a necklace, might be a good idea to skip! I’d also think about what color the jacket is and making it pop by matching accordingly. A red jacket is fun to go monochromatic with or contrast with some crispy white! A black jacket is chic to pair with grey pants or a classic pair of blue denim. If you want to play with the silhouette go for the 70s style. Add a pair of heels for the balance!

A Chic Outfit

One thing about the puffer jacket is that it has a subtle 90s street style vibe to it which gives it a casual vibe. This makes the jacket perfect to contrast with more fancier pieces. An outfit that embodies this perfectly is the one below. The overall in combination with the white sweater has a rather elegant touch to it with the clean lines and classic color combo. The classic bag and the sunnies adds to this feeling. That’s where the puffer jacket makes up for a perfect balance as it adds a street style vibe. Pairing the street feeling with the sneakers is a great way of creating coherency. I think this outfit is a great one if you need an example of how the puffer jacket fall 2017 can be worn in a more subtle way, yet working in a more proper context.

  1. I haven’t worn a puffer coat since I was a small child, and I’m honestly not interested in putting one on my body, but when styled correctly, I think these coats look so cool! Particularly the longer lengths. And pink. Pink is fun. Have a lovely week Mia!

  2. Not sure how I feel about the super oversized puffer but love the small last one! Such a cool vibe! Too bad it never gets cold enough here to be able to invest in one…

  3. Ahh, I haven’t worn a puffer coat in at least 2 years. I love them. They’re so warm, but I definitely did not ever wear them this stylishly lol I love these looks! These winter coats make me miss cold weather so much. I’d love the pink or colorful ones if I still lived in Toronto.

    1. That’s a great way of getting inspiration! It’s a timeless piece indeed and if you choose it in a neutral shade it ought to keep you stylish for the years to come too – without growing tired of it! Xx

    1. Same here honestly! Now I just love them crazy oversized and going statement. Just need to be “good” weather conditions to be able to wear them! Xx

  4. I’ve been loving this trend, but I’m super picky about it, haha. It has to be in a different color for me to be drawn to it and be a bit shorter in length. I saw Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What wear a burgundy one with a pair of Balenciaga sneakers in the same color and fell in love!!! I say, if the price is right, go for it this season with all the trendy outerwear we’ve been seeing. It’s such a practical trend to embrace and helps make the boring winter look that much more exciting! Thanks for sharing, beautiful, and I hope you’re having a very Happy Monday so far!

  5. Haha, I’m all about jackets/coats too right now – I can’t seem to stop talking about them! Genuinely love this trend; and not JUST because it’s super sensible and totally practical 😉 I love the blue and red version you’ve shared in this post, it works so well with the Gucci belt too – amazing inspiration. Definitely voting ‘yes’ to embracing the style!! Have an amazing week Mia…

    1. Hahah same here! I could just do a full week on posts about coats and jackets. They’re just the best about fall fashion. Love the pops of colors too, such an easy way to go for a more colorful life! Xx

  6. I like how warm these jackets are. Winter is NOT my favorite, so a coat that keeps me nice and toasty and is in style appeals to me for sure. I don’t know that I’d go for a dramatic one, but I think I could get behind a medium-puffy level jacket, ha!

  7. Oh and another GREAT trend alert! I am such a big fan of puffer jackets and I think I need this pink one in my life 🙂 I love how you put this trend report together, the chic version is my favorite <3
