I remember a few years ago when patent leather was everywhere. Although, it never really left the spotlight it feels like it’s more trendy now than ever. With its glossy appearance, it’s a great alternative to the classic leather look. Here’s a trend alert on patent leather fall 2020!
Patent Leather Fall 2020
Patent leather is often done in the same way as leather, with patent leather pants, jackets, boots and bags being the most common styles. Especially patent leather pants and boots are having their time in the spotlight. The most common way of doing patent leather is in shades of black and brown, but some wine red styles, as well as pink and green, have been spotted. The patent leather jacket has often been done a bit more cropped or full knee/midi-length, often resembling a more fitted trench coat.
How To Style It
What’s great with the patent leather material is that it’s like a bold version of leather. Where you’re wearing leather, you can wear patent leather instead. Like, go for patent leather pants instead of classic leather pants. As the material is glossy, it’s a fun match with more matte materials such as knitwear and denim. Patent leather boots are great if you want to add a twist to your look, but still keep it pretty wearable. I love the idea of working a pair of mom jeans, a white shirt and some black patent leather boots! Also the idea of working a knitted sweater and layering it with a patent leather jacket is chic. Or, why not go for a colorful set and finalize the look with a patent leather jacket? In general though, this trend is not a timeless one. So if you’re not absolutely head over heels, maybe it’s a good idea to sit this one out.
Street Style Inspiration
And here’s some street style inspiration! Love this first look from OP. Just so gorgeous and classic to go for a statement piece such as the skirt, but make it wearable with a simple white blouse. Gorgeous contrast! Love the second outfit too with the matching black and white. Such a pop with the white earrings. The third outfit is also a gem with the blue patterned dress and the glossy jacket. Love the silver boots too, such a fun statement. As for the fourth outfit, love the idea of going monochromatic and work different materials – genius contrasts! Also love the statement of the last outfit, the popping shade is so cute. Such a crispy match with the white pants too. I’d love to see a white pair of boots instead of black, but oh well!
