Gosh, I was sure that I had already done a trend alert on the mom jeans as they’ve been back in style for some seasons now! But better late than never huh? I do consider them to be a piece of style rather than trend sensitive, as of why I’m extra fond of this trend alert! Here’s an article on the mom jeans 2018:
Courtsey of Emilia Wickstead | Resort 2018
Mom Jeans 2018
The mom jeans made their comeback when the 90s fashion popped back to the fashion scene! They are recognized by the high waist and the loose, yet structured style. They’re not baggy as in the boyfriend jeans but semi-baggy if that makes sense? Anyways the jeans were for long quite disliked as they’re arguably not that flattering. But we don’t care about that so much, do we? Some of the designers that worked the mom jeans includes; Marissa Webb, Topshop and Emilia Wickstead
How To Style Them
So I’ve already mentioned that the mom jeans might not be that flattering, not really adding curves but drowning them somewhere between the high waist and the width of the legs! I think there are a few ways you can balance the jeans , by enhancing the silhouette but also add some height to balance the heavy look of the clothing piece. There are different ways to create a silhouette 1) tuck in your top, partly in the front or fully around 2) go for a crop top and thereby create some contrasts 3) mark your waist with a belt, I’d do this if you have a longer cardigan that needs some structure. To balance the heavy feeling of the jeans you can either go for heels or skincolored shoes. This will make you appear taller and help you pull off the look easier.
Another thing to think about is to balance the feeling of the jeans. A terribly diffuse thing to say, fully aware of that, but it’s about making the style of the jeans suit your personal style. That is, if you enjoy a more preppy style, it’s a good idea to pair the look with elements that are typical of your style and what you like. For instance, the preppy style is highly associated with structured pieces and of finer materials. A silky blouse is a nice contrast with the heavy denim. If you need to make the outfit look more formal, adding a blazer is in your advantage.
Lastly, the light washed denim color is one that goes with all the colors. That means that you’re safe to play safe but also that you’re safe to reach for the bolder shades. Red is still a color to count on, ultra violet is the shade of the year and other statement shades as the neons or the fall colors will work well!
Some Inspiration
Here’s a few fashionable looks that I think a great examples of how to style the mom jeans 2018. From how to go for the structured look with a blazer to adding some color. Note how in the first look the balance of ย the elements is genius. Love the way the texture of the sweater contrasts the one of the denim. Truly folks, it is simple as THAT!!
Folks! What are your thoughts about the mom jeans 2018? Drop a comment below! Xx
I’m going through a bit of a denim phase – albeit against my inner critic. Mom jeans are something I want to get into, but I definitely needed some of this inspo to get started! It’s a balancing act for sure. Happy Monday, lovely! xx

It is indeed but I think you’ll work the mom jeans in the most fierce way! Xx
I must say this kind of jeans are my favorite kind of jeans โค๏ธ I’ve never been obsessed about tight pants so this is the perfect trend for me. Not sure if I’m exactly wearing the mom jeans but they’re very similar, contrary to what many think, I must say there are many ways to make this type of cut look great and stylish. And the big plus? They’re the comfiest!
They are the comfiest indeed, enough room to breathe and play with the volume! Xx
I like the style of the 90’s although this style is a bit funny. Mom’s jeans I like and I wear them with pleasure. My mother when she saw me in them showed her photos in such jeans ๐
Hahah I actually wear my mom’s jeans from the 90s haha, love how fashion recycles! Xx
This mom jean trend is awesome. These are such great tips. I love wearing a good pair of jeans with a blazer and tee. ๐ It’s the most casual I tend to get. A good pair of mom jeans are hard to find though. If it doesn’t fit right on my thighs, It looks so ridiculous on me hahaha, but with a good set of heels the look is super flattering. I don’t tend to wear anything higher waisted with sneakers, but I’m sure many people can pull that off much better than I. ๐

Haha I think that’s the most important part about the mom jeans though – to find a pair that really suits you. They aren’t that flattering, but they can still be stylish if you’re working the right pieces! Xx
I love mom jeans, they are so comfortable

Hahah some seem to disagree and some agree, I do think they can be unflattering yet terribly wearable?! Xx
I love these. But i really think they only look nice on certain body times, mayb someone with fuller thighs and wider hips rather than the petite type. Fashion keeps going in circles. X

I’ve been loving the mom jeans trend too! My problem is that I can’t find any that fit me just right. Hope I find some soon since I love all of these looks you shared for inspo!

I love mom jeans. Love ’em. I finally traded in my skinny jeans for mom jeans last year, and I never want to go back. I think they look great on everyone! Also, thanks for the ultraviolet reminder. I forgot somehow, but I’m excited about it all over again!

Hahah glad you keeping up the spirit with the ultra violet shade, trying to do that as well! Xx
I have to admit that these would not look good on me (Same as padded shoulders don’t). I agree that this is a style rather than trends sensitive.
Have a lovely evening xx

The jeans can be quite unflattering, but it can often be balanced with some styling! Xx
No, I can’t. I don’t think I’ll ever give this trend a try, I find it to be extremely unflattering. ๐
ShireenโReflection of Sanity
Haha well I did talk about it in the article, and yes they can be terribly unflattering, but why do we care that much? Xx

Hmm, despite being a mom these are pretty far outside my comfort zone. I do need to up my denim game though, since I wear it so much. Thanks for some ideas on how to freshen it up!
I think the mom jeans are perfect for the everyday denim style. Comfy and quite easy to style once you’ve done it a couple of times! Xx
What a great inspiration Mia! I’m a huge denimaholic but I always thought mom jeans wouldn’t look that good on me. Why not trying something different? I guess I would pair the jeans with a chunky sweater. Have a great week babe

I’ve never worn mom jeans before because tbh, I never thought I could pull them off, until reading this post. You know that I love to tuck, whether it be entirely or half way.I never thought of it really working with the style of jeans, but now that I’ve seen that last look you’ve shared with the sweater, I really like the way it looks! This is a denim style that’s very much dependent on the other pieces it’s worn with, so there definitely needs to be more thought put into the look and with these tips I think it’s much easier to approach them. I also love that you’re encouraging to style them in a way that’s reflective of our personal style. When trying something that’s a little outside of the box, I think combining it with pieces that are more safe for us makes it much more approachable. Thanks for sharing, gorgeous girlie; I hope you have a very Happy Monday!
