Fall 2019 Couture – Part 1

So I’m not really sure where to start with the couture collections for fall 2019 that are shown in Paris right now. From voluminous creations, to exaggerated patterns and explosive colors – there’s so much fashion candy to talk about! I have several looks I’d like to pin down in one way or another, so let’s start with part 1 of some artistic and interesting creations. Perhaps the couture life isn’t realistic on a daily basis, but undoubtedly a source of inspiration for a more creative life!

Fall 2019 Couture

Giambattista Valli

So this white creation from Valli is all about the draping and flow of the fabric. The very sophisticated and refined draping gives a soft and calm impression, which gives the dress a harmonious style. I love the layered look as well, with the three sections of the dress enhancing the bouncy look. I think the ruffled hemline, and the choice of adding some extra length to the dress, frames it nicely as it follows the flow of fabric. The bows add to the delicacy as well as the head piece. Absolutely adore the soft elements of this dress!

How to make a pattern more upbeat and fierce? Well, why not do it like Valentino and make it contrasted and intense! The transparent fabric and print of the top nicely balances the heavy colors, fabric and pattern of the bottom part of the dress. Note how all the main colors used (red, white, green and black) are opposing each other, making the pattern more dynamic and energetic. This edge in the dress is further enhanced by the heavy eye makeup and the strict hairdo. I love the dropped silhouette too. It’s not that common to go for a “waistline”  that low and not make the bottom part of the dress tight á la the mermaid style. That’s why it’s refreshing to see a more spacious fashion that allows the pattern to reach its full potential.

In contrast to the more fierce Valentino dress, this Givenchy dress is a contemporary statement of a classic black and white fashion. The sharp V-cut of the top and the soft white of the skirt feels like an interpretation of a more timeless fashion. What gives this look its trendy twist is the fringe of the skirt, which adds character and energy to the look. I also love the styling of the tights (socks?) and the patent leather boots. The styling of a simple hairdo and a natural makeup look adds to the timeless feeling of the creation. Such a well executed piece of fashion!

  1. Giambattista Valli is an absolute dream and this gown is no exception. I love your mention of the little embroidered bows – they add so much to the overall design; beautiful! 🙂
