Denim Overall

Folks, we had a blast talking about the trendy culottes last week, so we’ll cover another fashion trend this week by addressing the fabulousness of the denim overall!

What’s the denim overalldenim overall3

The denim overall is not only a perfect representation of the 90’s fashion, but also kind of the coolest and weirdest fashion piece of them all. The overall started out as a popular clothing piece for workers in late 19th century, and remains popular today. Since then it has also passed as children’s wear, pregnancy wear, and trendy fashion wear. They also got their time in the spotlight during the 1960’s and 1970’s, but perhaps they’re most beloved for their look of the 1990’s as they were embraced by the grunge style.

When to wear the denim overall

There are some style rules you might want to consider when pulling of the denim overall. Regarding the style and the association with the piece, it makes it perhaps most suitable for more informal wear (even though we love breaking the style rules). The denim overall is often also a bit oversized which also gives the feeling of it being more of leisure than work. This doesn’t mean you can’t work it at work though, if you style it with more preppy clothing pieces you can find a balance between comfy and chic!

How to style the denim overall

As mentioned, the fashion piece is a bit oversized so when styling them, you want to be aware of the balance. Matching them with a tight top, a defined shirt or a sleeveless piece will make a good contrast. However, a fashionable and classic match we adore is pairing the overall with an oversized white tee. If doing so, you might want to balance the outfit with some subtle shoes, a hairdo and accessories that are defined in shapes. The golden style rule is to add less when you wear more! Speaking of colors, just wing it to the regular ones you would pair with denim!
